A Special Sausage Sizzle

In a steamy jungle, shafts of watery sunlight dappled small groups of young people as they foraged for dry sticks and open pinecones.

Sliding through mud & braving rainfall, these intrepid adventurers set about building, lighting and nursing small fires into crackling life.

The sound of sausages sizzling and raindrops hissing in the pans finally began to echo through the trees, as the 1st Dursley's Beavers & Cubs enjoyed their end of term Sausage Sizzle.

OK it wasn't quite a jungle, but the rain that fell through the tree in Chestal woods gave a real sense of Amazonian adventure to the evening.

And this was no ordinary sausage sizzle.

This year we had Andy Cole, the District Commissioner, with us who kindly helped one of the sixes to set their fire and cook their sausages. But that wasn't all that made this a very special event.

After we'd all munched our delicious sausages, and the Cubs and Beavers had managed to get really filthy, we gathered around to witness no fewer than four investitures and two fond farewells. To say nothing of the awarding of a multitude of badges.

Holly left Beavers & became Belinda. Akela became Shiela. Cherry became Holly. Bagheera became Akela.  Sky & Riley became Cubs. Mark Morton became Group Scout Leader. Andy became muddled with promises. And everyone had a great time.
