Dursley Fireworks
Saturday 5th November 2011
This year bonfire night fell on a Saturday and the Dursley Scouts were once again running the drinks and cakes stall. The afternoon saw the set up group arrive, and with a bit of careful pre-folding of the kitchen tent, we were soon up and running. With a couple of hours to go before the event gallons of water were put on to boil, and pans of soup were set to cooking (even if the soup instructions were a bit complicated for one of the parents if the photos are anything to go by).
As the afternoon light faded into the evening it was time to try out the latest addition to the Scouts equipment: a large halogen work light. with the large lights on the tent could be seen from the other side of the field, which would help to bring in customers.
As we got closer to the gates opening, more and more cakes started arriving, and by the time the event actually started the tables were groaning under the weight of cake. Which was a good thing as the people volunteering to serve were kept busy by the constant flow of customers.
At the end of the night the total raised came to £465.46 (less expenses such as tea, coffee, milk etc). This was only made possible by all of the parents and leaders who gave up their time to set up, man the tent and to provide the cakes.
