

January got off to a slow start due to bad weather but by the middle of the month all sections were back in full swing.

February saw some of our young members and leaders, parents and committee members planting trees courtesy of Sainsbury’s at Dursley Rugby Ground in partnership with the Rugby club and Stroud tree Workshop in the snow.
Cubs enjoyed a visit from Goff who was a cub scout during the 2nd world war in Dursley and who still has an active role in scouting. Goff contacted us through our web site.




In March we held our 1st car wash of the year at Slimbridge £176 was raised for group funds.


This year we were the hosts for one of the biggest events in the Scouting calendar- Saint Georges day.

Members from across the Cotswold & Vale District came to Dursley for a parade and afternoon of St George themed fun- making swords, helmets decorating biscuits and building a trebuchet. A great time was had by all who attended.

Our AGM- a new executive committee was formed with double the number of committee members. Scouts Cubs and Beavers enjoyed a variety of team games on the Recreation field while mums &dads attended the meeting.

1st Dursley wins the Dursley Festival processio
n. We made a traditional circus troupe complete with a lion, strong men, clowns, a bearded lady, an Indian squaw, an animal tamer and a ring leader. We also did well with our tea tent and were able to use our new banner to advertise ourselves. We raised a fantastic £276.30 despite competition from other stalls also selling teas.

A small band of Scouts and Cubs raised a huge £263.49 by packing bags for shoppers in Sainsbury’s.
Term ended with a sausage
sizzle in Chestal Woods. Au Revoir was said to Akela & Holly. Mark w
as invested as Group Scout Leader.
July also saw our scouts head off for their summer camp

All change- New Akela and Beaver leader- New Assistants and 5 mums sign up as occasional helpers. Designs for our Christmas cards are underway- we are off to a flying start.

Our 2nd Car Wash at Slimbridge Raised £193.15.
New locks are fitted on the entrance door.

Well done to our design a Christmas card winner’s. The sale of the cards has raised over £569. We still have more packs to sell. Thanks to Alpha Print for donating the cards and to our chairperson who arranged for the cards to be printed. November was a very busy month for fund raising and events. The tea tent at the firework display in Dursley (£458.53) (We purchased a new gas urn for use at this type of event and for camps to make the use of boiling water safer.)Then the Tombola at Rednock school (£145) and Webb Ivory orders (approx £100)
All sections had a good turnout at the Remembrance Day Parade, all smartly dressed and very well behaved- we are very proud of our members.

We also had greatswimmers turn up for the district swimming gala taking us to first place this year.

We held our Christmas party at Penn Wood.
Everybody had a wonderful time despite the cold. The fire kept everyone warm.

Four new leaders were invested! Well done, Tati, Mel, Gaynor and Emma.

Our final fund raiser of the year- Carol singing outside Wildwood florists in Dursley Saturday 18th December 10am -12 Noon. Please come and join us for a good sing along festivity.
OUR HEARTFELT THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HAS CONTRIBUTED TO OUR SUCCESS THIS YEAR AND FOR THE HELP WE HAVE RECEIVED IN SO MANY WAYS AT OUR MEETINGS, AT CAMPS AND IN ALL OTHER ACTIVITIES SUCH AS FUND RAISING AND TIDYING AND CLEANING OUR HUT.
