On Friday 25th November Dursley held their annual Christmas lights switch on and this year 1st Dursley Scout Group were there selling their Christmas cards. The Group had a stall in the Market Place, but by sending children up Parsonage Street we were able to cover the whole event.

1st Dursley Scout Group were asked if they would help Dursley Town Council/Cam Parish Council/Vale Vision to deliver their Community Plan Residential Survey around Dursley. It was agreed amongst the Group that a Saturday morning would be assigned in order to deliver as many survey documents as we could, whilst some parents who could not make that day were happy to take survey documents home and deliver on the street where they lived.

During the month of September 1st Dursley Scout Group was one of the three beneficiaries for Waitrose - Stroud’s Community Matters. Waitrose Community Matters is a scheme by which each month three groups/organisations are chosen to receive a proportion of £1,000. The proportion received is dependent upon the tokens received, which are put into your container by shoppers. 1st Dursley were up against a Primary School in Stroud and the “big hitter” of St John’s Ambulance. As you can imagine St John’s Ambulance received the largest proportion of the £1,000, but 1st Dursley Scout Group received £196. Our thank you go to the staff of the Waitrose Store in Stroud for allowing us to be one of their beneficiaries and the customers who put their tokens in our container.

What a wonderful way to start the Christmas spirit. This is what Scouting is about: sitting round campfires, playing games and singing.

The 1st Dursley Scout Group came out in force on Sunday to parade with the services to remember those that gave up their lives during 2 World Wars and during other conflicts

The scouts entered two teams on to the popular 3 county wide event achieving our best ever results. The A team came 8th out of 55 teams and the much younger B team came 23rd.

The clouds were thick and the sun hid yet still the cars came...
