Christmas Party Enjoyed By All

The 1st Dursley Scout Group Christmas Party was a huge success at Penn Wood. Starting at 2:30 on a sunny but cold afternoon around 100 young members and parents came. The bonfire provided some much needed warmth but for much of the afternoon it was not really needed by the young members as they were kept running around by playing games organised by our Scout Leader, John Fleck.

In the kitchen Cherry (Maggie), Akela (Ruth) and Jane were the stalwarts who made sure that everything in the kitchen ran smoothly.

Mulled wine helped everyone forget the cold and hot dogs were very welcome followed by mince pies and chocolate logs.

The light started to fade and our guest of honour, Richard Buxton, invested Emma, Gaynor, Mel and Tati. Many congratulations to you all.

The lights were hung in the trees arond the fire and it was time to sing some Christmas Carols, beautifully accompanied by Will on his saxaphone. What a wonderful way to finish the afternoon.

The party was at the expense of the Scout Group as a thank you to everyone who has made 2010 the most successful year we have had for a long time. The numbers of young members have increased, we have recruited many adults either as leaders or as parent helpers. The amount of money that has been fund-raised has been exceptional and our funds are looking more healthy than they have for many a year.

So may I, on behalf of the Executive Committee, give a huge thank you and wish you all a very merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
